Henley Pre-school aims to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment, incorporating an excellent learning programme for children aged 2 to 4 years.
Our pre-school is a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance. We have a constitution, which is available for you to read, and a wide range of policies relating to the organisation and running of our pre-school. We receive regular newsletters and information about local and national PLA matters. Parents are always welcome at PLA events and whenever possible we try to attend meetings held by the local branch. You are also welcome to make informal visits to our pre-school sessions to see us in action. Just contact our pre-school leader who will be pleased to help you.

Settling in
Children cannot play or learn successfully if they are anxious or unhappy. Our settling in procedures aim to help parents to help their children feel comfortable in our pre-school, to benefit from what we have to offer and to be confident that their parents will return at the end of the session.
We want children to:-
feel safe and happy in the absence of their parents
recognise other adults as a source of authority, help and friendship
be able to share with their parents afterwards the new learning experiences enjoyed in our pre-school
In order to accomplish this we will:-
encourage parents to visit pre-school with their children during the weeks before an admission is planned
in special circumstances, arrange for our pre-school leader to visit the family at home in order to gain more insight into the child's background and needs
introduce flexible admission procedures, if appropriate, to meet the needs of the individual families and children
reassure families from the outset that they will be supported in our pre-school for as long as it takes to settle their child here
How pre-school is run
The pre-school leader and committee are responsible for the children's welfare whilst at pre-school. The committee employs the pre-school leader and staff. It is made up of parents and consists of a chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary and treasurer with not less than one nor more than five other members (and up to three co-opted members if so decided by the committee). The committee is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the Autumn term which we hope parents will attend.
Parents are encouraged to be involved in our pre-school and may contribute by:-
standing for committee
offering to be on the back-up list to help at sessions if for any reason a regular assistant cannot come
helping to organise and support vital fundraising events
offering transport for outings
helping with parent rota
Parental support, however small, is valued for our continued success. The committee and staff welcome ideas.
If there are more children wishing to start pre-school than there are places the committee operates a system to determine which children have priority in gaining a place. Details can be found in 'Our Policies'.

A break for milk and fruit is held each session. On Mondays and Fridays lunch is eaten between 12 and 1 o'clock. A healthy packed lunch should be provided from home for children attending all day (9am - 3pm). On Mondays and Fridays any children just attending a morning session are welcome to extend their stay to 1pm (at a cost of £3) if they'd like to join us for lunch. Any children just attending an afternoon session are welcome to bring their lunch and eat with us at no extra cost as lunch-time is within the session time.
Parent Rota
Henley pre-school operates a rota where parents are expected to help at sessions. This mainly involves playing with the children, washing up after snack and a small amount of clearing up. This is a wonderful opportunity for a parent or carer to experience a pre-school session.
